My Fly „Why?“

For those of you new to Germany, you perhaps do not yet know that it is very difficult to rent an apartment if you have a pet. Although I love dogs, as a renter, this has never been an option for me. However, I have come up with a solution: I have a pet fly named „Why?“.

Why? and I mostly hang around together in the kitchen. He seems to prefer the air there, I’m not really sure of the reason. Perhaps because the cabinets are black, and so he blends in better. Occassionally he does like to join us as we are watching TV, eating chips. In those times his place of preference is sitting on my lap, altho his buzzing does sometimes disturb us and I have to reprimand him with a loud „Why?! do you have to be so loud?“. To which he normally buzzes off and sulks in the corner.

The advantages of having a fly as a pet are many, and I can highly recommend fly ownership to renters. Number one, they don’t eat much. They are very clean and leave no heaps of steamy mass that have to be scooped up. They do not smell. They are very affectionate and like to be around people, especially their one designated favorite person, which in my house is me.

I have posted a picture of Why? here – isn’t he really adorable? He sleeps every night on the 7th fold of our venetian blinds in the kitchen, so we also did not have to buy him a fly bed. Oh, that is another advantage – flies are economical pets and do not need special food. Although sometimes that can be a bit annoying, as Why? prefers my food to anything else I put out for him. Then I groan with a „Why? do you always have to eat my dinner?“ But I think he doesn’t hear very well when it comes to food.
